Rooted

As the holidays approach and the impending new year is upon us I feel a change coming.

New opportunities have arisen and inspiration is striking full force once more. It has my gears turning constantly hence occasionally being up in the middle of the night. But I don't find this troublesome. Tired at times, yes but more so excited about the near future and what it holds.

The other day I sat in a very informal meeting with some new colleagues. These are people who want to change the world one project at a time. They are my new teachers for many reasons. They have knowledge in their fields of expertise, they have creativity and motivation, and they are excited to learn new things themselves. Because of this I know we will have great success together.

The focus of our meeting was to talk about the beginning stages of an impending community garden. My mentor and friend, S shared her gift of community knowledge with us and we all agreed that for this garden to get up and running it would be essential to get the community involved right from the brainstorming phase. We can't just use they're labor we must involve they're Minds and they're Hearts.

This old concept crept up again into the front of my mind . ROOTS. A community anything; a garden, a school, a business, requires heart and soul at the very roots of its life. And what better way to illustrate that concept but with a garden? All plants thrive off of a healthy root system. If the roots are tampered with the plants will cease to grow.

During this meeting I had one of those moments. Contentment. Security. The feeling that this was exactly where I belonged. Gardening will soon be more than harvesting radishes and planting Bok Choy. Gardening will be a tool in which we can form strong, bonded, soulful communities. With all this to look forward to, I will use my upcoming vacation with family to have rest in my heart and start rejuvenated for the new year.
